A circle all around: what sheer diversity!
Perhaps an eye shall dart, shall dart to me perchance!
To me, with glasses, here? To me, with eyes that prance?
To me, with stars of acne, on a sallow cheek,
made pallid with a touch of coughing malady?
Perhaps to me, by purpose or by hapless chance;
perhaps to someone else, another victim seen.

My lips embrace, with touch so rough, and wonder how
their minds are pondering, artistic, thinking now?

Are any forming brand new characters to use?
Or wondering what stories they could find in prose,
employing faces to describe and to abuse?
I know that I am stealing them and churning roles.

  1. I'm curious, what was the inspiration of this sonnet?

  2. Inspiration? GPL short story contest meeting...we got prizes and such, so it was all the finalists and a couple of local authors (Jane Lewis and Kathy Stinson). It was inspired out of someone's story...about a subway ride and the protagonist imagining the stories of all the people in the subway. Also, someone was talking about how he donated hair for cancer (because someone's story was about that - giving away hair) and that was part of the whole "you don't really know people until you walk in their shoes" kind of thing.

We really need to start on the French project! :P

  3. Very cool...a little sneak peek into a writer's mind.

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.

I say it just
Begins to live
That day.

- Emily Dickinson
